FATES WARNING Bassist: Tales From The Road
August 8, 2003FATES WARNING bassist Joey Vera has posted the following message on his web site:
"I'm back in black! The post-tour decompression is in progress. Glad to be home after the 6-week tour. I truly had the best time on the tour with FATES WARNING (supporting DREAM THEATER and QUEENSRŸCHE). We were treated with great respect and friendship by both bands and the entire production staff. It was one of the best experiences I've ever had. My thanks go out to everyone on the staff and of course to both bands.
"The last week of the tour ended up being quite the trip. It all started in Las Vegas when Eddie Jackson from QUEENSRŸCHE strongly suggested I travel with his band to the next city. So in my drunken stupor, I stumbled onto the QUEENSRŸCHE bus. 2 days later I wake up in Spokane, WA where the next show was to take place. I get a call from the FATES guys and they're still in Idaho somewhere. Sometime in the middle of the night, our bus broke down. They were stranded there for 16 hours and had to cancel the Spokane show. Well, I guess I'll hook up with them at the next show in Boise, ID. But nooooo! An hour later I get another call from them saying that we've been cancelled in Boise because the stage was not big enough for 3 bands. They are going to fix the bus and drive to Portland, OR. So, I was a refugee on the QUEENSRŸCHE bus for 3 days! Lucky for me the band and their tour manager were extremely cool about the situation to let me hang. They really took care of the refugee! Thanks guys!
"Made it to Portland on the 4th day with a really bad hangover (I made myself useful in Boise by buying everyone and myself shots of just about everything). [former CYNIC bassist] Sean Malone came out to jam with FATES and [DREAM THEATER drummer] Mike Portnoy on OSI's 'Shut Down' which was really cool. Then played the last show in Seattle, WA at a sold out Paramount Theater, which was a great show for everyone.
"It was an honor to be performing and getting to know musicians of this caliber. You couldn't have been around cooler people. And jamming with Portnoy every night was a special treat for me, Mike's just a friggin animal!
"It was hard saying goodbye to everyone, it seemed in the beginning that the tour would go on forever, but at the end it seemed like the blink of an eye. Thank you to all of you who came out to the shows, it would have been half as fun without you. Now I rest..."
